In January 2016, Martin confirmed that he had not met an end-of-year deadline for release of the book before the sixth season. On January 10, 2017, Martin announced that he believed that The Winds of Winter will be released "this year." As of July 22, 2017, he confirmed being "still months away" from finishing the book. spoilers. I don't think George R.R. Martin is a bad author or a bad person. I am not going to crap all over him for not releasing Winds of Winter. I don't think he will ever finish the stort because in my opinion he has more of a passion for Westeros and the world he created than he does for A Song of Ice and Fire.
